This comfort dish comes straight from the heart of America. Mix 1/3 cup each of diced onion, carrot, celery, red or yellow bell pepper, and potato. To that add approximately 2 cups of sweet corn kernels (3 ears worth). For best results, sauté the carrots, onion and celery in some olive oil before adding to the chowder.

Burger and Fries

Large portabella mushroom caps are the perfect alternative ingredient for this classic American favorite. Grill or broil the caps on medium heat on each side for about 5 minutes, brushing on your favorite marinade for added flavor and moisture.

Non-dairy Swiss style cheese, caramelized onions, and garlic aioli make for lip-smacking toppers. For best results, drizzle some extra virgin olive oil over whole wheat buns and toast them on the grill. But of course, what is a burger without fries?
